This training course has been developed in the framework of the Erasmus+ project Smart textiles - Modernisation of curriculum of Textile Engineering and Textile Technology in Indonesia, Malaysia and Pakistan (SMARTEX).

The main outputs of SMARTEX are the modernisation and internationalisation of Higher Education Institutes in Malaysia, Indonesia and Pakistan, in the context of the priorities identified in the New EU Consensus in Development and the EU Higher Education in the World.

In this framework, 15 updated and new courses in textiles are offered, and distributed through this online platform. Furthermore, national and international internships will be promoted and supported.

The objectives of the project are:

·       To analyse the competences necessary for graduates of textile engineering and related faculties' bachelor studies in Asian universities as far as technical and smart textiles are concerned.

·       To update the curriculums of Asian Universities, by developing new or by updating existing courses in textile engineering and related faculties' bachelor studies.

·       To integrate innovative teaching/learning methods into the reformed curriculum of Asian Universities.

·       To develop learning material for the new and updated courses and their correspondence to ECTS.

·       To promote the internationalisation of Asian HEIs by implementing international exchanges of staff and students.

·       To build capacity of academic and administrative staff of Asian HEIs by organising training sessions for them in European HEIs.

·       To enhance the competitiveness of Asian HEIs' graduates in the labour market with the organisation of national and international internships in companies.

The training course uses a blended learning methodology that consists of an e-learning part through the e-learning platform and face-to-face workshops and coaching sessions.

The e-learning phase has as objectives:

-        to bring together the participants and create the teams,

-        to introduce the themes to the participants and

-        to work on the main theoretical principles of the training course.

The total duration of the training will be 146 weeks.

At the end, the course will lead to a final assessment and certification based on the learners’ assessment, according to the European framework.

The course Advanced Textiles is an optional course that opens for the third year Textile Craft students with 2 credits. In this course, students will learn about advanced textile materials which include an introduction of textile technology, the history of modern textile development, and textile innovation in several fields. The learning process is carried out through lectures and group discussions. Assessment will be conducted through assignments and exams at the middle and end of the semester.

Learning outcomes

  • Able to distinguish between the latest types of textiles (smart textile, intelligent textile, advanced textile)
  • Able to understand textile manufacturing technology and its applications.
  • Able to explain the development of modern textiles
  • Able to design creative concepts of advance textiles

Explorative Biodegradable Textiles is an elective course of 3 credits for third-year Crafts program study students majoring in Textiles. In this course, students will learn and explore concepts about biodegradable textiles. The learning methods include lectures, discussions, and conceptual projects.

Assessments are held by examinations and end-of-term projects.

Learning outcomes

  • Able to process materials exploratively to fulfill the concepts.
  • Able to design creative work concepts based on biodegradable textiles.
  • Able to understand the concept, purpose, and function of biodegradable textiles.

Electronic Textiles is a 3-credit elective course for Craft students who choose the interest in Advanced Textile. Students learn techniques for processing electronical components by combining technological tools in building innovated textiles. It is a practical course that is conducted through hands-on practice, discussion, and project work. Assessments in this course are carried out through practical assignments, exams, and a final project by the end of the semester. All students enrolled in this course must follow the appointed safety guideline.

Learning outcomes

  • Able to assemble and operate electronic devices in building craftworks. Able to process a combination of insulator material (fabric) and conductor (circuit). Able to process materials exploratively to fulfill designed concepts.
  • Able to elaborate on different types of electronic devices and understand their work steps
  • Able to design creative work concepts based on basic electronic knowledge
